Overtime Pay Calculator
Hourly workers are entitled to 1.5x their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek, per the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This calculator shows your overtime pay and total weekly or annual earnings.
What Is Overtime Pay?
Under the FLSA, non-exempt employees must be paid 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a 7-day workweek. Some states have additional rules (daily overtime, double-time for holidays, etc.).
Regular Rate - It Is Not Always Your Hourly Wage
The FLSA "regular rate" includes base hourly wages plus non-discretionary bonuses, shift differentials, and commissions. It does NOT include gifts, expense reimbursements, or paid time off.
Worked Example: $20/hour, 50 hours/week
- Regular pay: 40 × $20 = $800
- Overtime pay: 10 × ($20 × 1.5) = $300
- Weekly total: $1,100
- Annual (52 weeks): $57,200
- Without OT (40 hrs): $41,600
- Overtime premium: $15,600

The salary threshold was raised to $43,888 in July 2024, and scheduled to increase to $58,656 in 2025 (currently under litigation).
Frequently Asked Questions

No - overtime is taxed at the same rate as regular income. Your withholding may appear higher because of the increased income.
What if my employer refuses to pay overtime?
File a complaint with the US Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, or consult an employment attorney.
Can salaried employees get overtime?
Some can - if they earn below the salary threshold or fail the duties test. Otherwise, no.
